On November 16, the Optimist Club of Lynchburg held its annual Recognition of Elementary Youth Program, sponsored by Bank of the James, during which six students from private and public elementary schools within the City of Lynchburg were honored for their positive achievements and long-lasting effects in the areas of Arts, Community Service, Courage, Fellowship, Humanities, and Science.

Sponsor organization Bank of the James was represented by Vickie Spencer (Vice President and Community Relations Officer), who assisted with the distribution of the awards, as well as Bob Chapman (President and CEO) and Tance Laughon (Community Relations Assistant).

On October 19, the Optimist Club of Lynchburg held its third annual Youth Leadership Achieving Neighborhood Excellence Program, sponsored by Hurt & Proffitt, during which six young people within the City of Lynchburg were honored for demonstrating a strong degree of volunteerism and achievement at the city's public and private community centers.

Lynchburg's Mayor Joan Foster was on-hand to address the honorees, guests, and members regarding the importance of cultivating responsibility in the youth of our community who will become the leaders of tomorrow.

On September 21, the Optimist Club of Lynchburg recognized its 30th anniversary during the club's annual Charter Luncheon, held at Phase 2.

On August 17, the Optimist Club of Lynchburg held its annual Research Recognition Program, sponsored by MontVue Capital, during which two Central Virginia Governor's School students were recognized for their outstanding ability to convey their Research curriculum project summaries in the form a visual presentation board.

During the program, held at Phase 2, each honoree received an award certificate, a commemorative Optimist Club medallion with pocket-sized Optimist Creed, and a gift certificate to Givens Books.


Two winners of HumanKind Essay Contest recognized during luncheon sponsored by Wells Fargo Advisors - 06/15/2017

On June 15, the Optimist Club of Lynchburg held its annual Essay Contest Recognition Program, sponsored by Wells Fargo Advisors, during which the two winners of the contest (in partnership with HumanKind) were recognized for their stellar entries entitled "Why I Love My Family".  The contest winners represented Sheffield Elementary School and Temperance Elementary School.

One student each was recognized from E. C. Glass High School, Heritage High School, Liberty Christian Academy, New Covenant Schools, and Virginia Episcopal School.

Five local students compete in Club Oratorical Contest sponsored by Brownstone Properties - 03/16/2017

On March 16, the Optimist Club of Lynchburg held its annual Club Oratorical Contest, sponsored by Brownstone Properties, during which five local students competed for the opportunity to represent the area at the district contest in May.  Each contestant presented an original speech on the topic of "Optimism".  Communication skills necessary for the oratorical contest develop a lifelong advantage.  The event, emceed by club charter member Jeff Taylor, encourages students to be proud of their accomplishments and to continue to refine their skills no matter the outcome.

On February 16, the Optimist Club of Lynchburg held its annual Career-Technical Recognition Program, sponsored by AREVA, during which twelve high-school students within Lynchburg City Schools were recognized for their achievements in the Career-Technical Education path.

Career-Technical Education courses are held at both E. C. Glass High School and Heritage High School and provide Lynchburg students a specialized opportunity to focus their interests in a career or trade.

New Website Nears Completion! - 01/18/2017

The much-anticipated new website for the Optimist Club of Lynchburg is nearing completion, with a special presentation Thursday, January 19, to existing club membership before full rollout.  This website "revamp" is associated with the club's efforts to increase its modern social media presence, as with the recent concentration on steady upkeep of the club's Facebook page.  We are excited to continue to spread the word about what we do!
